FREE LOVE AND DAISY CHAINS

Last years words belong to last year’s language, Next year’s words need another voice. To make an end is to make a new beginning.
(T.S.Eliot)

A decade ago I stood on the top of a mountain and welcomed the New Millennium.
Like most I was full of hopes and dreams of a better world and a better life.
Ten years on in Europe we have seen the disastrous effects of the plunging economic climate. Where once there was plenty there is now is very little. Hundreds and thousands of people have lost their livelihood and their homes. Mother’s hearts have been broken with the cries of their young children forced to leave the bed they slept in since they were born.
Pensioners have lost their savings and their security, the money they worked hard to pay for the insurance which would, as they believed, ensure comfort in their old age, has been lost through corrupt mismanagement.
Students have gained their degrees owing thousands to the banking institutions they used to finance their studies. After all their hard work they discover there is no work. All they own is their debts.
The Gnomes of Zurich march on, not one of them prosecuted and still getting their million pound bonuses.
Is life and living as unpredictable as it appears?
Unfortunately it is my belief that it is.
There is no guarantee for anything, health, wealth and happiness is as illusory as the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
So should we change our mind set? Should we move back into the Hippie care-free days of the 50’s, ban the bomb, live for the day, free love, and daisy chains?
I don’t thinks so, because you see that generation are today’s grannies and grandpa’s. They all have the tendency to blush at the thought they once made love to a stranger in a field full of weeds and cow droppings. Even they had to let go of their dreams and join the ranks of the gainfully employed.
Sooner or later we all have to detach from mother’s breast, and learn how to take responsibility. Fortunes are made, fortunes are lost, however when the river stops flowing and the trees die can you eat the money?
All of the above is intrinsically about money. Money might be the root of all evil but it is not the core of our existence. I pity the human being who thinks it is because he lives in a barren field with dark clouds over his head.
Today I feel the secret of life is about ‘balance.’ Now don’t keep me to that, because next week I might believe it is about eating jam donuts. The miracle of life is to be able to use good judgement without being judgemental. Perhaps in 2010 we could adopt the policy of being non-judgemental or at least learn to keep our mouths shut when we feel we really need to pass judgement.
We all need to grow up and grow emotionally. We all need to be more positive about love and life. We all need to let go of old negative thoughts, anger and resentments. We all need to dump them back into two thousand and nine. Say goodbye to them, leave them behind because if we truly believe this is a new decade, a new beginning, we can imagine walking into a clean empty white room, filled with nothing. This is our future and the chance to start decorating our own souls. Love is filled with wondrous colours and we have the choice to decorate the room as we want. No one can live your life for you, you have the power to change your own life, all you have to do is harness the power and move forward. You walk with one step in front of the other, you don’t walk backwards. Life is about making mistakes. But it is not about making the same mistakes over and over again

After a while you learn
The subtle difference between
Holding a hand and chaining a soul
And you learn
That love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security.
And you begin to learn
That kisses aren’t promises
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes ahead
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child
And you learn
To build all your roads on today
Tomorrow’s ground is
Too uncertain for plans and futures have a way of falling down
in mid-flight.
After a while you learn that even sunshine burns
If you get too much
So you plant your garden
And decorate your own soul
Instead of waiting for someone
To bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure,
And you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn
And you learn
With every goodbye, you learn…..

I wish all of you a very happy 2010, I wish you joy and good health. I wish for you the wisdom to know and understand your dreams and the energy to pursue them.

World Cup Sum Up

By the time this issue is out the great Mondial will be over, and if there is one thing that we can take away from the games played so far, it’s that Fifa president Sepp Blatter’s vehement resistance to the use of technology has become untenable.

Museums You've Probably Never Been To

By Lena Alsayegh
We all know that Egypt has a wealth of historical sites and a rich overlap of cultures spanning thousands of years. However, only a fraction of us have actually ever seen the Pyramids or been to Luxor, let alone the Egyptian Museum. So, we’ve decided to spotlight a few places to whet your cultural appetite if you should ever find yourself with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon.

The Dreams Will Only Die With Me

A dream starts with one clear thought.
(E. MOON)

Do you ever feel your head won’t be quiet? Homeopathy In Sharm

When you visit the doctor, he will ask you what is wrong. "My foot hurts," you might say, and the doctor will lift the foot and look at it from all angles.
He has seen this before. Within 15 minutes, he will learn all of the details he needs to make a diagnosis. He will write on a pad, hand you a slip of paper, and you will hobble out the door. This is how medicine is done, right?
Why is it then, that for the same complaint, a homeopath will require that you sit in her office for at least an hour? Why will she ask you about your childhood, your dreams, your preferences for food, and so on?
What are these tiny white pills she has recommended you, and why do they have a name that sounds so strange?

Real Estate In Sharm

Over the past few years the resorts surrounding the Red Sea have witnessed a property boom which parallels those of Spain and Dubai in recent times. At the forefront of this increase in demand is the resort of Sharm El Sheikh, ideally situated on the southernmost tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Buoyed by a rapidly expanding tourist industry, Sharm El Sheikh is today one of the most popular destinations for people looking to purchase a property in Egypt.

Do You Believe In The Evil Eye?

Hello Muriel,

Do you believe in the evil eye?

 Thanks,
Mona

Dear Mona,
I don’t think it is about belief; it is more about respect and acceptance for other people’s beliefs. It is not about my opinion either as opinions become diluted with age.
The ‘Evil Eye’ is believed by many cultures to be able to cause bad luck or injury on the person to whom it is directed.
The concept and significance of it varies widely between cultures, but for me the psychodynamics are of ‘envy.’
It has been mentioned several times in the Bible and is also mentioned in the Koran.
