Memoirs of a Sharmer
Look Before You Leap
It was observing the latter that I noticed one of the girls was always trying to make sure everyone else was ok; anyone needed anything she jumped up and got it, anyone asked about anything she was always there to reply and so on.
Watching she reminded me of myself once upon a time long ago. Until I discovered that no one seems to be happy, grateful or satisfied anymore...no matter how hard you try, in fact, the result seems to be just the opposite; the more you try the more disgruntled and expectant people get.
Well, as they say; please all, and you will please none, not even yourself...
I am usually very level headed but on the certain occasion I can be impulsive... It was on one of these occasions that things suddenly went wrong...
I was going back home soon and needed to buy gifts for family and friends, and where better to look than the Old Market for typical Souvenirs?
After having my morning coffee on my balcony with a view of Tiran Island, I had a quick shower, got dressed and hit the streets. I was glad that I had remembered to bring a light jacket with me as it was now quite cold.
I walked around for an hour or so, in which time I had managed to pick up some pretty cool gifts but i was still down on a lot a needed something different. I was also starting to get a headache from all the ‘come look in my shop...’ that I was constantly hearing.
Thinking it time I had a cigarette, I stopped to sit on a bench and light up. While i was thankfully puffing away, a man came and sat next to me. I couldn’t quite tell where he was from as he didn’t seem Egyptian and didn’t like to ask.
I started chatting to him for a while and told him all about how i was looking for gifts and so. Immediately he said he knew where I could get them and if I waited on the bench until I finished my cigarette, he would go get them for me.
Thinking my luck had suddenly changed; I gave him the money and thanked the man. However, after waiting for a good couple of hours and still no sign of him, I started to have the sickly feeling that I would never see him again...
Well I guess that I learnt my lesson the hard way, which is to “look before you leap!”

Homeopathy In Sharm
When you visit the doctor, he will ask you what is wrong. "My foot hurts," you might say, and the doctor will lift the foot and look at it from all angles.
He has seen this before. Within 15 minutes, he will learn all of the details he needs to make a diagnosis. He will write on a pad, hand you a slip of paper, and you will hobble out the door. This is how medicine is done, right?
Why is it then, that for the same complaint, a homeopath will require that you sit in her office for at least an hour? Why will she ask you about your childhood, your dreams, your preferences for food, and so on?
What are these tiny white pills she has recommended you, and why do they have a name that sounds so strange?

Do You Believe In The Evil Eye?
Hello Muriel, Do you believe in the evil eye? Thanks, Mona
Dear Mona,
I don’t think it is about belief; it is more about respect and acceptance for other people’s beliefs. It is not about my opinion either as opinions become diluted with age.
The ‘Evil Eye’ is believed by many cultures to be able to cause bad luck or injury on the person to whom it is directed.
The concept and significance of it varies widely between cultures, but for me the psychodynamics are of ‘envy.’
It has been mentioned several times in the Bible and is also mentioned in the Koran.
