Sinai Weekly Issue 68

Last week we received this e-mail from a Sharmer who requested it to be published. So here goes:

Dear Editor,
Refering to your page in sinai weekly last week, " celebrating Sinai", i think i have an interesting story  about sharm "the far distance dream",  thought you might like to hear it , or as for our case read it and maybe share it with the readers.

My life was based in a different country then Egypt much more like many sharmers, lived , grown, studied even constracting dreams all over there( Lebanon).Egypt was only a visit between summers.  short story long, first time my eyes landed on sharm was when a Doctor in my college gave us an assignment for a brochure about each of the students original country and it's tourristics sight , activities and such ( media college, mass communications) something to attract the tourrists to.

without knowing, all i was doing was searching for anything special that may classify my country in the excellent or A+ level, other then the pyramids, and there it was the " charm of sharm" ,saw it in a TV ad. i kept searfing till i had the most amazing informations i could use for my assignment: pictures, blue pure water, the warm sun, the hospitality, the nature of desert, the diving, the night life, the jobs opportunities....whatever or howmuch i will describe it won't explain to you the image of my face glowing in front of the computer screen with a wide openned eyes and a drewling mouth. yes surprised and shocked how i didn't see this part of Egypt, the part of becoming a sharmer.

Anyway, i had my first A+ for the assignment, the Doctor was speachless with a million question marks on her face, she kept saying :" how? what? how?" i gave her a brochure full of activities and sightseeing and relaxing luxurious vacation for the whole family , even kids could have fun without bothering their parents , a full party in a way that concerns all ages, even little ones can have fun with trustfull supervisors who will take care to make your vacation m ore comforting. well she didn't know that i am simply an egyptian seaking to be a sharmer.

since that assignment, 5 years ago, sharm was a dream , "a far distance dream", a life style ,a goal to reach and here i am, newly wedded to an 8 years sharmer (of course it's another story) turning my life up side down in "the charm of sharm".

Care to see more story? i hope you do, please reply to me and let me see this next week on the sinai weekly.

Best Regards

Laura

Museums You've Probably Never Been To

By Lena Alsayegh
We all know that Egypt has a wealth of historical sites and a rich overlap of cultures spanning thousands of years. However, only a fraction of us have actually ever seen the Pyramids or been to Luxor, let alone the Egyptian Museum. So, we’ve decided to spotlight a few places to whet your cultural appetite if you should ever find yourself with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon.

Homeopathy In Sharm

When you visit the doctor, he will ask you what is wrong. "My foot hurts," you might say, and the doctor will lift the foot and look at it from all angles.
He has seen this before. Within 15 minutes, he will learn all of the details he needs to make a diagnosis. He will write on a pad, hand you a slip of paper, and you will hobble out the door. This is how medicine is done, right?
Why is it then, that for the same complaint, a homeopath will require that you sit in her office for at least an hour? Why will she ask you about your childhood, your dreams, your preferences for food, and so on?
What are these tiny white pills she has recommended you, and why do they have a name that sounds so strange?

Real Estate In Sharm

Over the past few years the resorts surrounding the Red Sea have witnessed a property boom which parallels those of Spain and Dubai in recent times. At the forefront of this increase in demand is the resort of Sharm El Sheikh, ideally situated on the southernmost tip of the Sinai Peninsula. Buoyed by a rapidly expanding tourist industry, Sharm El Sheikh is today one of the most popular destinations for people looking to purchase a property in Egypt.

Do You Believe In The Evil Eye?

Hello Muriel,

Do you believe in the evil eye?

 Thanks,
Mona

Dear Mona,
I don’t think it is about belief; it is more about respect and acceptance for other people’s beliefs. It is not about my opinion either as opinions become diluted with age.
The ‘Evil Eye’ is believed by many cultures to be able to cause bad luck or injury on the person to whom it is directed.
The concept and significance of it varies widely between cultures, but for me the psychodynamics are of ‘envy.’
It has been mentioned several times in the Bible and is also mentioned in the Koran.
